Benetel is a telecommunications technology company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, specialising in 5G Open RAN Radio Units (O-RUs) for public and private networks. 2. What is a private 5G network?
A private 5G network is a non-public 5G mobile network dedicated to a particular organisation, site or use case. It can provide controlled connectivity, security, predictable performance and local coverage for applications such as manufacturing, industrial automation, campuses and critical communications. Private networks can use licensed, unlicensed or shared spectrum, depending on the deployment and regulatory environment.
Our RAN550 and RAN650 radios are designed for private-network deployments, including enterprise, industrial, campus and other local applications, as well as mission-critical applications and tactical communications.
3. What is Open RAN?
Open RAN, or Open Radio Access Network, is an approach to building mobile networks using open, standardised interfaces between RAN components, rather than relying on a single vertically integrated vendor.
The objective is to enable components from different suppliers to interoperate, supporting a more flexible, multi-vendor and disaggregated network architecture.
4. What is O-RAN Split 7.2x and why is it important?
Split 7.2x is a functional split between the lower and upper parts of the 5G physical layer. In an O-RAN network, it defines the open fronthaul interface between the O-DU (Distributed Unit) and O-RU (Radio Unit).
It allows the radio and much of the baseband processing to be supplied separately, supporting multi-vendor interoperability, virtualised RAN deployments and greater flexibility in how networks are designed and scaled.
5. Where do Benetel radios sit within the 5G Open RAN architecture, and how do they interface with the CU and DU to form a complete stack?
Benetel supplies the O-RU, or Radio Unit, at the edge of the RAN.
A simplified 5G Open RAN stack is:
5G Core → O-CU → O-DU → O-RU → Antenna → User Equipment
The O-CU handles higher-layer centralised RAN functions, the O-DU handles distributed/baseband functions, and the O-RU handles radio-side functions. With Split 7.2x, the O-RU connects to the O-DU over the O-RAN Open Fronthaul interface.
Our radios implement the O-RAN Control, User and Synchronisation planes and Management Plane functionality needed for this interface. Our M-Plane implementation uses NETCONF/YANG and supports both hierarchical and hybrid management models.
6. What is Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and how does Benetel support it?
Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is a set of Ethernet networking technologies designed to provide predictable timing, bounded latency and highly reliable delivery of data.
TSN is particularly relevant to applications such as industrial automation, robotics, autonomous systems and smart grids.
Our indoor and outdoor Split 7.2 radios support several of the key features needed to enable TSN across the RAN. We are also researching and documenting the integration of TSN with 5G, including its relationship with 5G URLLC capabilities.

7. What are the Benetel product lines?
Our Radio Units are divided into two product lines: the RAN650 outdoor, rugged RU delivering up to 5 W per antenna port, and the RAN550 for indoor deployments.
Both are 4T4R, 100 MHz, Split 7.2x O-RAN radios based on a common hardware and software platform, but they differ in RF front-end capabilities and environmental specifications.

8. What frequency bands do Benetel 5G radios support?
Our radios are available in several 5G frequency bands:
- n77u: 3700–4200 MHz, TDD
- n78: 3300–3800 MHz, TDD
- n79: 4600–4900 MHz, TDD
Band availability is product- and variant-specific. Customers should confirm the required band configuration of the RAN650 and RAN550 with our sales team.
9. What latency can I expect from your 5G RU in a live network?
Our 5G radio units are optimised for ultra-low latency, supporting sub-1 ms over-the-air latency in ideal conditions. End-to-end latency across the full RAN stack depends on the DU/CU configuration and transport network. Our RUs are designed to meet 3GPP URLLC requirements for mission-critical applications.

11. How does Benetel integrate with NVIDIA?
We have demonstrated integration of our RAN550 O-RU with NVIDIA Aerial L1 and the OpenAirInterface (OAI) L2/L3 stack, managed through the OAIBOX dashboard.
This provides a GPU-accelerated, open-source platform for experimenting with 5G/6G and AI-RAN applications. The integration was completed in collaboration with Allbesmart.

12. Where are Benetel radio units manufactured?
Benetel is a European 5G technology company with all its engineering, development and manufacturing activities based in Europe. Benetel radios are designed, developed, tested and manufactured at Benetel’s facilities in Dublin, Ireland and its second design operation in Gdynia, Poland.
This gives Benetel direct control and visibility over the manufacturing of its radio products and supports a resilient European supply chain for critical telecommunications infrastructure. 13. "Wholly manufactured in Europe" – why does it matter?
5G Radio Access Network infrastructure is strategically important national and industrial infrastructure, particularly at a time when global supply chains are being affected by geopolitical tensions, changing trade policies, tariffs and export controls. The relationship between the US and China remains a significant source of uncertainty for global technology supply chains, while Europe is also seeking to reduce strategic dependencies on external suppliers. The European Commission has specifically identified increasing external dependencies, export restrictions and the weaponisation of supply-chain dependencies as risks to European competitiveness and resilience.
These issues can translate into practical logistics challenges: longer and less predictable lead times, changing freight and customs costs, tariff exposure, restrictions on particular components or technologies, and increased difficulty in guaranteeing continuity of supply. Trade measures are also becoming increasingly targeted at strategic technologies and materials, adding further uncertainty to international manufacturing and procurement.
A European manufacturing footprint can therefore help customers simplify logistics, improve supply-chain visibility, reduce exposure to geopolitical disruption and tariffs, and maintain greater control over the sourcing and production of critical network infrastructure.

Our radios have achieved O-RAN End-to-End (E2E) Badging following rigorous validation at the Digital Catapult OTIC Lab in London. The testing, conducted from October 2025 to January 2026, successfully completed all mandatory scenarios, demonstrating standards-aligned, multi-vendor interoperability across the RAN stack.
